Terms of Service
Last updated: 19 August 2026
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of AstroLog operated by AstroLog (“we”, “us”). By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these Terms.
1. The service
AstroLog is a web application for recording astronomy observing logs, equipment, locations, and related notes or images. Features may change as the platform develops.
2. Eligibility and accounts
- Access is typically by invitation or administrator approval for club members.
- You must provide accurate account information and keep your login credentials confidential.
- You are responsible for activity under your account.
- We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these Terms or club rules.
3. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Attempt to access another member’s private data without authorisation
- Upload unlawful, harmful, or abusive content
- Upload malware or attempt to disrupt the service
- Use the platform for commercial spam or unrelated advertising
- Scrape or bulk-export other members’ data beyond features we provide
4. Your content
You retain ownership of observing notes, images, and other content you submit. You grant us a limited licence to store, display, and back up that content solely to operate AstroLog for you and (where you choose) other members.
Do not upload material you do not have rights to share. Images you upload may contain location metadata; strip sensitive EXIF data before uploading if needed.
5. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data. Observing locations can be sensitive — keep home coordinates private unless you intend to share them.
6. Availability and backups
We aim to keep AstroLog available but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. Administrators may perform maintenance or restore from backups. You should export important records periodically if you need an independent copy.
7. Astronomy calculations
Moon phase, twilight, altitude, and similar values are approximate aids for logging context. They are not a substitute for professional ephemerides or safety-critical decisions (for example solar observing safety).
8. Disclaimer
AstroLog is provided “as is” for club and personal logging use. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of AstroLog, including loss of observing data, except where liability cannot be excluded (such as death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud).
10. Changes
We may update these Terms. Continued use after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, unless your club administrator specifies otherwise for this installation. Courts in that jurisdiction have exclusive jurisdiction, subject to mandatory consumer protections where applicable.
12. Contact
Questions about these Terms should be directed to your AstroLog club administrator.
